I parlayed my degree in Fashion Merchandising into a successful fashion consulting service in Chicago, as a personal stylist, wardrobe consultant and a personal branding strategist, offering public workshops to women's groups and organizations. I also provided individual coaching to numerous private clients on personal packaging, wardrobe engineering and group workshops and clinics on figure dressing and personal style. I also author a Blog entitled Your Best You, which can be found at www.anempowerednewyou.wordpress.com As an Empowerment Coach my mission is to inspire women to ‘get in the game’ and rediscover the art and power of her authentic self, embrace her personal power, and create the life she wants. My mantra: "Step outside your comfort zone and become an enlightened woman knows who she is, why she is at a certain place in her life, where she is going and how to enjoy the ride!"

What Your Personal Style Says About You!

Your Personal Style says something about who you are as a person and how you choose to express yourself. How you ‘work-it’, how you ‘own it’. And, reinforcing everything about you that is already beautiful.

However, there’s NO way to unearth your Personal Style without first knowing who you are.

Your Personal Style is influenced by everything in your life.  It comes from your job, to your financial situation, to your religious or moral beliefs. From your body type, your personality and your lifestyle.

The KEY, of course, is to combine all these things and blend them in a way that projects what you want the world to see. Your Personal Style represents those choices that tell the world who you are.

The right style brings out the best in every woman, at every age, in every size and situation. Making a concerted effort to look your best and express your personality, goes a long way toward feeling better about yourself.

“Fashion is temporary – Style is Eternal”   -Coco Chanel-

The first thing is to totally accept yourself and love who you are. Because, when you have negative feelings about yourself, it can be emotionally painful and could derail your style.

That’s not to say that you should be ‘clothes-conscious’, but rather ‘conscious-of-self’ and how you project your true self in the clothes you wear.

Style is a Celebration of your Uniqueness

To help you discover your Personal Style, you need to know what inspires you. What colors you love, what images you are drawn to, etc.

A lack of understanding and awareness about your own Personal Style can compel you to mistakenly highlight your flaws while at the same time, diminishing the pleasing qualities you possess.

Style is part personality: spirit, attitude, wit, creativity. It demands the desire and confidence to express whatever mood you want. It reflects your own unique complexity as a human being.

Every person has the potential to create a unique identity and express it through grooming and a few well-chosen clothes. Exhibiting an authentic and dynamic personal style exemplifies class, and sets apart those who have it from those whose mode of dress is obviously just an afterthought.

Style is From the Inside-Out

Style is found only by looking inside yourself. Both your spirit and your self-image are developed and expressed from the ‘inside-out’. This.self-realization gives off an elevated aura of power, assurance, creativity, a sense of style and most of all, a creative approach to life.

As a Personal Stylist, I’m trained to identify the conflict between the way you may want to be perceived by others and the SELF you see in the mirror everyday.

Personal Style is not about following the latest fashion trends, it’s about finding what suits you and what makes you feel comfortable and confident. The more satisfied you become with the glimpse of yourself you catch in the mirror, the more satisfied you become with the inner you.

Part of Style is personal identity: self-awareness and self-knowledge. You can’t have style until you have articulated a ‘Self’. And Style requires security – feeling at home in your body, physically and mentally. Of course, like all knowledge, self-knowledge must be updated as you grow and evolve. Style takes an ongoing self-assessment. We’re all works in progress!

Developing your Personal Style allows you to discover your own fashion voice and begin embracing the process of learning about Style and enjoying the experience of expressing your best self.

And in order to work, Style has to reflect your BEST self…anything less, and you become the same as everybody else around you and rob yourself of the benefit of presenting yourself to the world whatever you choose to BE.

Style is optimism made visible. Style presumes that you are a person of interest. More importantly, I believe your style demonstrates (without words) that YOU are a person of value, worth getting to know.

The world is endlessly fascinated by women who use their style to show who they are. Whatever aspect of yourself you reveal most often is also the aspect which will become stronger  and stronger in your life.

So why not add Creativity, Imagination and Boldness to your list of vital ingredients for a Stylish life.

The Power of Reinvention: Be Who You THINK You Are

Dare to be who you were meant to be!

“…We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?  Actually, who are you not to be?  You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world…”.  – Marianne Williamson

Have you ever wondered if you can be more than you are?

True Reinvention is not about waking up one day and deciding who you are going to be. Reinvention means possessing the Awareness of when it’s necessary to redefine yourself.

This includes seeking the personal development and self-empowerment necessary to manage your life on a much higher level and get what you want out of life.

As a woman in today’s world, it’s essential to take advantage of the distinct characteristics and uniqueness that you are, and become aware of the great strength that lies within you.

To Reinvent yourself is to follow the guidance of your inner spirit, descending deeper into yourself and connecting more closely with your most authentic, creative self at this particular point in your life.

A healthy self-awareness is key to finding your purpose in life and making your life more fulfilling.

Whether or not you acknowledge the strength and power within you will determine who you are and what you are to become.

Why not spend some time with yourself and gather up the little pieces of yourself you may have given away or ignored.

The change from being who you are to who you need to be, is executed in a spiritual way. I’m talking about is the creative flow, the new ideas, and the inward spiritual power by which you can do all that you want or need to do.

The greatest tool for reality creation is your mind. And enclosed within your mind, are your beliefs, your memories, your desires, and your goals and dreams.

Thoughts are our hidden feelings. Wherever your thoughts tend to travel on a habitual basis, determines what you do, what you say, how you look, your abilities and your personality.

The simple, obvious, but often overlooked fact is that the patterns of our thoughts create what’s going on in our lives right now.

As you can see, your way of doing things is a direct result of the way you think about things. You can reshape and modify who you are and what you do by simply putting your mind to it. In other words, you can think yourself to the next level and create the life you love.

This Chart illustrates the person we show to the world, based on the thoughts we think:

Now would be a good time to take inventory of the circumstances, environmental factors and relationship unhappiness you have in your life that you could do without. And this may call for some Re-invention.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to redefine ourselves and change will do that.

Explore your own significance, worth and impact! As a result, you will begin to realize that your life has a purpose, a destiny and a meaning that must be discovered.

Wardrobe Personality PicYour fashion personality has nothing to do with your height or weight, or how long or short your hair is. Your fashion personality is an expression of your feminine spirit and character.

What you wear should reflect your lifestyle, your dreams and your passions and be a look that is the most becoming to your figure and body shape.

In order to present your most authentic self to the world, it’s important to understand and respect your clothing personality. This is the key to developing self-confidence and a sense of acceptance and satisfaction with yourself.

What you show on the outside is an indication of who you are on the inside. Establishing a fashion personality means building on your sense of style that reflects who you really are.

People are stylish in different ways. One of the secrets to ‘dressing well’ is to have a handle on your own fashion personality. Your hem lengths and colors should suit your persona and portray the image of ‘your best you’ that you want to show to the rest of the world.

Have a look at the fashion personalities below and have fun identifying your own (you might find that you’re a combination of a few):

Step Out and Evolve!

Step Out and Evolve!

”There are three (3)types of persons in the world: Those who make things happen. Those who watch things happen, and Those who wonder what happened”. – Mary Kay Ash –

You are an Extraordinary woman – created with worth, dignity, expertise and purpose.

Do you not yet realize you are a designer original, a masterpiece designed by an awesome creative power.

You were never intended to be ordinary.

In fact, you were designed to be uncommon, special, irreplaceable and rare.

Beautiful Diamond

Beautiful Diamond

   Diamonds are expensive because there are no two alike.

The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo DA Vinci in 1513 is considered priceless and inestimable and therefore un-insurable.

There is a high value placed on you and no one else on earth has been designed to do what you were created to do.

Each of us came onto this earth for a reason.

As a woman, you are a miraculous and unique creation with something special to offer.

However, many of us have been taught to look outside of ourselves for significance and yes – our purpose.

Some women, myself included, have a great big vision for their life, but, sabotages herself to keep from achieving it, by either ignoring the vision and hiding her gifts and talents, or finds herself ‘stuck’ in doubt and fear.

In any case – it’s time to examine what it will take for you to STEP OUT, set yourself apart and evolve into an extraordinary woman who’s living a life of profound significance – on purpose – by design!

Extraordinary Women

Extraordinary Women

As a modern woman, you can expand your view of who you are and what you deserve from life and remove the self-imposed limitations and barriers that keep you stuck.

The woman with a misguided sense of who she is and how she wants to present herself to the world is all too common.

To that end, she often finds herself unfulfilled, bored with her life and feeling basically unworthy of having what she wants from her life.

God knows what is in you because He put it there, distinct characteristics and your very own uniqueness.

However, in the vigorous process of recognizing and embracing your extraordinary uniqueness, you will encounter one of life’s most difficult challenges:

(a) How to look at yourself truthfully, and then

(b) acknowledging and accepting what you see.

To meet this challenge, you may find that some aspects of you require attention, some aspects need a small amount of work, and other aspects may even need intensive care. So it’s time to GET TO IT!

It’s been said that “without purpose – life is an experiment”. Purpose is the WHY. Purpose is your unique gifts and insight, Purpose gives you strength and courage to press toward the mark.

Stepping out and evolving as a woman on her purpose allows you to share your vision with the world in a much bigger way.

Finding your purpose starts by identifying what drives you and what your passions are.

There are moments in life that demand that we show up – that we let go of who we think we are supposed to be and embrace who we really are.

Then you can make the worthy decision to enhance every element of your life by developing faith in your gifts, talents, abilities and your capabilities.

What’s your greatest challenge to ‘Stepping Out’ into your purpose?

Let me know in the comments below.

A Word From Maya Angelou

I ran up on this poem from one of my she-roes – Maya Angelou. Hope you find it as enlightening as I do!

‘A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ

That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.’

 When I say…. ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not shouting ‘I’m clean living,’I’m whispering ‘I was lost, Now I’m found and forgiven.’

When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I don’t speak of this with pride, I’m confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say… ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not trying to be strong. I’m professing that I’m weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say. ‘I am a Christian’ I’m not bragging of success.I’m admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess. Continue reading

I have been having an internal battle with myself lately (well actually this battle is on-going), concerning stepping outside of my comfort zone to achieve what I want to achieve in my life.

Our comfort zone is a very seductive place. We know it well. We feel safe there, and it is very easy to get lulled into believing that this is the sensible place to be living our lives.

However, there is no creature alive that truly thrives living in a contained area; and that really is what our comfort zone is. It is a small, confined area that, although may provide us with an illusion of safety, actually denies us any opportunity to expand our skills, talents, knowledge, and sense of personal power.

This poem is contained in my book, and I wanted to share it with you here.

 Comfort Zone

I used to have a Comfort Zone Where I knew I couldn’t fail. The same four walls of busy work were really more like jail. I longed so much to do the things I’d never done before.

But I stayed inside my Comfort Zone and paced the same old floor I said it didn’t matter, That I wasn’t doing much. I said I didn’t care for things like diamonds, furs and such.

I claimed to be so busy with the things inside my zone, but deep inside I longed for something special of my own.I couldn’t let my life go by, Just watching others win.I held my breath and stepped outside and let the change begin.

I took a step and with new strength I’d never felt before,I kissed my Comfort Zone “goodbye” And closed and locked the door.

If you are in a Comfort Zone, afraid to venture out, remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt. A step or two and words of praise, Can make your dreams come true. Greet your future with a smile, Success is there for you!

                                                                                               Author Unknown

You must know the real truth about you, that you are uniquely gifted, exquisite as you are and designed to achieve whatever you want out of life. There is great wealth buried within you, allow yourself to develop the art of being an enlightened woman and live and love life to the maximum.

Have you had this internal battle with yourself? Have you stepped out, or do you still struggle with it? Let’s talk about it!

Who Do you Think you Are?

7 Fashion Styling Strategies to Rocking a Dynamic Personal Style that Elevates your Personal Brand

dynamic personal style2

“Fashion fades, only style remains the same”                 – Coco Chanel –

Where fashion unites us, style sets us apart.  Style is the image we create for ourselves.

STYLE is about feeling beautiful, confident, unique and rocking a dynamic persona that elevates your Brand.

As a modern woman of today, you exude quality, you have independence, individuality and your own unique style.

A lack of understanding and awareness about your own personal style can cause you to mistakenly highlight your flaws and at the same time, diminish the good things about you.

It’s style, not fashion, that makes a woman and that style is tied to how you want to Brand yourself.

You may think that a Brand refers only to business. But Branding is much more than that.

A Personal Brand is your personality, and your values and beliefs, coupled with how you present yourself to the world.

STYLE is not just about clothes. STYLE projects your needs, your personality, your goals and your destinations. Style also projects how you view life in general as well.

As we begin to enter a new season, it’s a time of new beginnings. It’s a perfect time to decide to make your Style and your Brand a ‘cut-above’.

Exhibiting an authentic and dynamic personal style sets apart those who have it from those who’s way of dressing is merely a practical exercise.

For you to present your most genuine self to the world, you must be strategic about your fashion decisions.

Here are seven fashion strategies that create a powerful and authentic personal style that is uniquely your own:

STRATEGY #1. Take more fashion risks – (Wearing more skirts, wearing less black, or dressing more boldly.) Why not take more risks this season to take your style from so-so to AWESOME! Try these:
-Accessorize boldly
-Embrace metallics
-Wear sequins during the day under a jacket
-Wear richer shades
-Add something bold or graphic to add an extra pop to your current outfits

STRATEGY #2. Never again buy anything that doesn’t express your individuality. A style that others envy doesn’t have to come from designer labels or this season’s newest fad/trend. But real style comes from wearing what looks best on you and expresses your personality, which includes:

-A flattering silhouette (shape)
-Your best color
-Playing up your assets (i.e., long legs, sexy collar bone, graceful neck)

Instant figure flatterers: – the right bra – a sheath dress – fitted blazer – black opaque tights.

STRATEGY #3. Rework (edit) your closet. Pare down your wardrobe, leaving only those items you absolutely love. First: take a strong, hard look at your wardrobe. Throw out or donate anything:

-That you haven’t worn in 2 years
-That’s in poor condition and can’t be fixed
-That does not fit, flatter, or look fabulous on you.
-That is a fad and no longer in style

STRATEGY #4. Dress for your shape, NOT your size. Keep in mind, when you dress for your shape, you want to emphasize your BEST assets. Your personal style disappears if your clothes don’t fit properly, and will look unflattering on you.

Tip: Your shape does not change – even if your weight does. You just become a larger or smaller version of the same shape.

STRATEGY #5. Find your Signature Style. A signature style is a distinct way of dressing that is totally and uniquely YOU. You take what you have – best features, personal history – mix it with current styles, and add your own unique little “twist.” Then you dress that way consistently, day after day, to the shock and admiration of all.

Some of the elements that make up signature styles, including fashion, accessories, and grooming.

STRATEGY #6. Don’t wear clothes that you have to fuss with, pull up all the time, or twist around. Fidgeting with your clothes zaps your self-confidence in the way you look, and takes away from your efforts to show good taste.

STRATEGY #7. Don’t buy anything that:

-Doesn’t look wonderful on you!
-Cannot be worn with at least 3 different outfits.
-Is identical to something you already own (another black cardigan?)

You can emphasize the positive aspects of your fashion personality through how you dress, and at the same time, possess more self- confidence and inner assurance.

Every person has the potential to create a unique identity and express it through grooming and a few well chosen clothes.

Keep these seven strategic fashion decisions top-of-mind and affirm your own unique personal style with how you present yourself to the world.

Making strategic fashion decisions announces to the world that you, the wearer has taken command of your individuality, your character and your own dynamic personal style and elevate your Brand.

The most important question to ask yourself when identifying your own style is “how does this make me feel on the inside?” Because this is how you will present yourself to the world on the outside. Don’t worry about following the fashion trends, unless of course, it makes you feel amazing when you wear it.

Seize Your Season & Become the Extraordinary Woman You Are Meant to Be!

butterfly woman

“To everything there is a season, a time to every matter or purpose under Heaven.”                                  -Ecclesiastes 3:1-

Where are you in the stages of your life? Do you understand the season that you are in? You’ve got to understand the season you are in so you’ll know how to move forward. There’s nothing worse than doing the wrong thing in the wrong season.

We need to develop our sensitivity to our moments of growth and change. In all areas of your life you will have a Spring (a season of new beginnings), a Summer (a season of ripening), an Autumn (a season of productivity), and a Winter (a season of renewal). We should discern when it’s our time to bud and blossom, our time to bear fruit and harvest, our time to lie dormant and our time to plow the field and make ready for the planting of a new crop.

Everything that comes to us really does have a reason, as difficult as it sometimes is to perceive or believe. Even some of the most painful, frustrating and unsettling moments have eventually made sense at some later time and have shown some purpose in my life.

Everything also has a season. How often have you relied on something for a while, only to see it show signs of disappearing, then you tried to cling to it as though it were permanent, or should be? When something is removed from our life, it means that something else is coming our way, or that maybe something needs to open, expand, renew, or be created.

    1. People, things, and events come into our life for a reason and a season, though that season may be brief or long and the reason unclear, until it’s time for us to understand it differently.
    2. When you see that a season for something in your life is approaching its end, that’s the time to visualize the next stage or realize you’re at a turning point. Embrace the fact of approaching change, so you have as much control as possible about how you go through what comes next.
    3. If you’re being nudged toward growth & newness, it may be time to visualize a new direction or a change of course. One tweak or even a small shift in one direction or another may make all the difference.
    4. Look for what may be blocking you becoming your best you, like limiting beliefs, or negative thinking, or fear of change. You can also adopt the attitude that everything that happens is a win for you because it’s an opportunity to learn and grow.

This is a time when women, and our unique qualities, play a much more visible role in shaping our world than in the past. You were designed to be uncommon, special, irreplaceable and rare. In actuality all people were created to be originals, just like the Creator himself, and thus, meant to live extraordinary lives.

The ordinary woman is influenced by her environment. The Extraordinary Woman develops the self-discipline and spiritual focus to shape her own life. She can rely on a well-developed Spirit to help navigate her life and manage her environment as well as the quality of the people and resources that can influence her world.

Everything you have as a woman – your talents, gifts, expertise, experience and education (self-taught or formal),was put in you to fulfill the Divine vision for you in this earth and to lead you to your purpose. As a woman, you are a miraculous and unique creation with something special to offer.

As an Extraordinary woman you can expand your view of who you are and what you deserve, to the point that there will be no limit to what you can achieve. It begins with an acute desire to expand your view of who you are and what you deserve.

We are all a ‘work in progress’, and this is a great time to set yourself apart and become a different kind of woman, a woman created with worth, dignity, expertise and purpose – An  Extraordinary Woman!

The world needs that special gift that only you can provide! Perhaps allowing your evolution process to be controlled by the One who created you in the first place, will place you on the path to becoming all you ever wanted to be.

Embrace your Uniqueness!
